Safety always. A job site is a living breathing entity, and the conditions can change in the blink of an eye. Situational awareness and communication are our most important components of our safety program. We encourage a culture of protecting our brothers and sisters by never saying that “it won’t affect me”. This means that if conditions of the site are requiring attention, you inform someone. If you see someone doing something unsafe, say something to them.
Safety on all our jobsites, no matter how small, starts well before the first boot has stepped on the site. Throughout the preconstruction phase of the project, we develop a Site Specific Safety Plan and an emergency action plan that will govern all foreseen hazards that we will encounter as the project carries on. We develop an Emergency Action Plan in the event of a natural or man-made disaster occurring. All our sub-contractors are required to submit all required insurance documents, training records, a list of all hazardous materials, and a Site Specific Safety Plan for approval before they can begin work on site.
Once on site but before work begins, all workers on site must attend a site specific orientation to help them become acclimate to site. Hazards and other areas of concern will be discussed as well the normal day to day operations such as parking or break areas. In the orientation, they will be made aware of what is expected of them and what they can expect from us, as well as pledge to follow our “Rules To Live By”.
- Eye Protection: ANSI Z87 eye protection shall be worn at all times (including prescription eyewear). All grinding, saw cutting, and work involving flying particles shall require the use of a face shield, and either foam lined safety glasses or goggles.
- Head Protection: Hard hats are required at all times (including welding), except when in break areas or equipment cabs. Hard Hat Welding Hood Variances may only be obtained from Glazing Solutions.
- Hand Protection: Proper Gloves are required to be worn at all times (minimum ANSI cut level A3). Exceptions made only for tasks that physically cannot be performed while wearing gloves (i.e. threading small screws).
- Foot Protection: Appropriate work boots.
- Fall Protection: 100% Fall Protection is required on unguarded areas 6′ or higher.
- Pre Task Safety Analysis: Complete and sign the daily PTSA outlining the steps of the task, the hazards, and the controls.
- Safe Work Permitting & Inspections: Complete and obtain Glazing Solutions approval for Hot Work, Confined Space, Roof Work & Excavation Permits. Complete Equipment & Aerial Lift Inspections prior to operation.
- Verify Zero Energy: Verify that all energy sources are at zero before working on equipment.
Job Safety analysis WILL be done prior to the start of a new task or at the beginning of the work shift, the work that the crew is doing must be reflected on their JSA. The daily safety brief will be given during the morning Stretch and Flex routine. All machinery on site will be inspected and documentation will be turned in. Safe work permits WILL be submitted AND APPROVED prior to starting any higher risk tasks such as hot work, confined space work, ground disturbance, or roof work.
Throughout the project our safety department will be on the site doing audits and inspections to ensure that the program and protocols are being followed. Weekly Toolbox Talks and Safety Audits are required from each sub-contractor on site. Site safety meeting will be held on site at least once a month with the trades foreman.
